External vs internal hearing aids

A hearing aid is an electronic device that you clip in behind your ear or in your ear. It elevates some sounds louder and clearer so that a person with hearing loss can listen, communicate, reciprocate and participate actively in daily activities. A hearing aid can help people hear effectively in both quiet and noisy surroundings. However, the users of hearing aid are rare as only one out of five people who need and would benefit from a hearing aid actually use one. Below are the types and styles of devices.

Styles in hearing aid devices

Types of devices

Analog devices

Analog aids convert the noises and sounds and amplify signal so the user can listen to sounds clearly. It is a customized device to meet the needs of each user. The audiologist specifies the configurations and details to the manufacturer so he can make the device suitable for you. Analog hearing aids have more programs and settings. An audiologist can configure the device through the computer and you can change the program for different backgrounds and environments—from a small room to a crowded public places to large, open areas, such as a entertainment malls. Analog circuit of device can be used in all types of hearing aids. Analog aids usually are less economical than digital aids.

Digital devices

Do you know binary code? Yes, a series of 10101 which we actually witness in films to communicate or signal is the binary code. Digital aids convert the noises and sound waves into numerical codes, similar to the binary code and transmit them before amplifying them. Because the code also includes facets like sound’s pitch or loudness, the aid can be specially configured to amplify some signals more than others. It helps an audiologist with more flexibility in adjusting the aid to a user’s comfort and to certain listening environments.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT DEVICE

The severity of your hearing loss is the primary information to find the device that you require. The hearing aid that will work best for you depends on the kind and severity of your hearing loss. If you have a hearing problem in both of your ears, two hearing aids are generally prescribed because two aids provide a more natural signal to your hearing senses. Hearing in both ears also will help you understand speech and locate where the sound is coming from. Your audiologist helps you in picking the right device that suits you the best.
